It’s honestly “the victor creates the history” and whitewashing has romanticized our past; ignoring the 400 years of slavery, genocide and imperialism on the idea that “we’re all equal” when that has never been the case unless you’re white and wealthy
I don’t think we’ve ignored them. I admit that our public education system has ignored them in too many cases, and our govt as well. But some people act today as though they’re the first people to discover American history. It’s just not true.

I don’t think it’s purposefully ignored by the children receiving the education, rather, ignored through standardized teaching models created by the ones at the top of the hierarchy. Discovering our true history can almost feel as if you’re the first. I’m glad that’s changing
