        "...refusing to acquiesce to a paternalistic machine..." I am so confused. Booker was running against a woman. If they wanted to vote against the "paternalistic machine" they would've voted for McGrath for a chance to beat McConnell.

        Not true. Paternalism does not refer to patriarchy; it refers to an attitude of “We-know-better,” the way the Dem establishment elite treats progressives like children who have to be corralled into doing what they consider the right thing - and scolded when we don’t.
