Our policies toward Venezuela have been awful. Trump possibly recognizing Maduro as legitimate might end a lot of suffering. Glib remarks about how he likes dictators is profoundly unhelpful, especially since I doubt you made similar remarks about Obama + the Saudis.
I assume, when you say it could possibly end a lot of suffering, that you think his meeting with Maduro might get sanctions lifted. But I don’t think it’s glib at all to point out that he’s never met a strongman he didn’t like.
Likewise, Libya would be better off if we "liked" the strongman who ran it. Instead, we called Gaddafi a dictator, invaded illegally, lied to the American people about the intelligence & helped plunge it deeper into chaos. *We're* the strongman, Marianne.

Hillary said Putin "had no soul." Trump said he'd work with Putin. 1 of those comments was unbefitting a leader & it wasn't Trump's. We mocked Trump, fear-mongered over Russia & he ended up pulling out of the INF treaty. Does that happen if we still encouraged detente?
