From my experience, I have found the enemy is always within us/inside us & I thought you were suggesting the enemy was outside of you, i.e. somebody else, not in you - just my way of experiencing the world

It is inside us, but WE is this case are the United States, so it's inside US. Got the difference? Imagine a whole country reading and applying some of the new-agey self-help material you apparently want people to think you have. The analogy isn't that difficult.
