1/ A fraction of work done by police require guns & the use of brute force. Vast majority of it would better be done by social workers, non-violent communicators and citizen patrols. We should stop mocking such ideas as ridiculous and instead start asking how to make them happen.

2/ Police training today, in addition to being ridiculously short compared to other countries, involves no real peace-keeping skills. Our police need to schooled in the ways of soul force & in a much different kind of brute force. They need to be actual "keepers of the peace."

3/ For so much less money than we now spend on police, we could create conditions that prevent societal pathology in the first place. This is why, domestically and internationally, America needs a Department of Peace. Ideas once deemed silly are now recognized as urgently needed.

All these promises now from police departments for "de-escalation training" don't impress me. This should have been the standard all along.

My brother did years of Irish UN Peace keeping on the Israeli / Palestinian border and never fired a shot. They were all taught to de-escalate every situation even with those equally armed. During even the most volatile of encounters use of force was always to be a last resort 🧡

I was present at some of their 'training' in the 1990's, they were teaching them ways to ramp up aggression rather than calm things down. I've been told it has only got worse and more militant

Serious question: Do you think you'd ever run for president again one day? I might only be a Canadian, but you'd be a breath of fresh air to America, maybe a Williamson-Ocacio-Cortez ticket. Just an idealistic take tho. Haha
