Both had their violent elements as well. If you look at American history it is always a mix of both that has brought change. Not advocating for violence just pointing out the history.

I thought about that, but the women's suffragette movement was piggybacking on black men voting. I am not sure I would qualify it as totally peaceful. Civil rights real change came with uprisings. Legislative change has to come with the ability to enforce the change.

Things only changed substantially when MLK was shot, when women threw themselves in front of horses.

The suffragette movement partially succeeded because the women’s vote was considered a political move to further keep black people out of power, racism won the women’s right to vote
