What do you call the tens of thousands of people who have died unnecessarily of Covid in this country? The tens of millions of people who are suffering its economic effects now? Neglecting to help someone when you have the authority to do so is as criminal as trying to harm them.

I understand what you're saying Marianne but I perhaps these are pathological forces/energies that can be found in many places beyond the current administration.

Interesting point. As soon as we acquiesced to an amoral economic system, immoral results became inevitable. Neoliberalism’s moral neutrality made way for all manner of evil. If you don’t take a stand for justice, injustice will find its way to you.

Those energies, I think, were around long before Trump. He’s the result, not the catalyst. Getting rid of him will not make everything well.

I agree with that. This problem will be with us after November regardless who wins. But we can at least begin having a sophisticated conversation about it, and stop pretending it can be treated on the level of symptom alone.

There is no reason to give them supernatural status. They are just evil people doing evil things. Not caring for their fellow human beings. Letting the poor suffer and their greed rage.
