1/ 40% of Americans didn’t know what they’d do with a $400 unexpected expenditure even before this happened. A $1200 one time payment plus expanded unemployment did not provide them “liquidity,” as Mnuchin had the audacity to put it.
2/ Another $1200 payment has been suggested, called by the Republicans a “socialist wishlist.” Millions haven’t & can’t pay their rent, lie awake at night wondering how to feed their kids, not even thinking of seeking medical help should they be sick because they cannot afford it
3/ Other countries froze their economies, provide ongoing #directcashrelief, and do more to put the safety and well-being of their citizens first. Other countries pity us now & we should pity ourselves. An American govt “of, by, and for the people” has “perished from the earth.”
People have so many expenses each month, and with 30 million people filing for unemployment, $1200 doesn't cover anything. We need long term #UBI

Wage subsidies have kept unemployment from rising in much of Europe. Refusal to consider them has given us the core conditions for another great depression. Republicans in Congress don't understand economics and need to be replaced with people who do.

This @stevenmnuchin1 genius cannot measure liquidity properly. Not everybody received their "one-time" 2 month late check, nor are yet receiving unemployment. This is why there needs to be monthly recurring direct payments. The people are not able to pay rent, their bills or eat.
Liquidity is a financial term. It means an asset that is cash, or is easily converted into cash. Congress passed a $2.3 Trillion boondoggle ( initiated by house democrats). Of which $2 Trillion did not go to the individuals. The $3T proposal also only gives $200B to the folks.
Doesn't count when it doesn't show up or doesn't cover for 24 hours, let alone 6 months.
