Is there an equivalent categorization for men? No, of course not.

Well, that’s sort of the point. “Karen” is a reminder to white women that despite their oppression as women, they hold certain privileges and can oppress others when they demand to speak to the manager or call the police on POC people just trying to have a cookout in the park.

I don’t see that as the point at all. The misogyny is still there. How is the white woman any more privileged than the white man? He, in fact, is more privileged than her. And how is demeaning any group a step on the path to where we want to be?

Nobody is saying a white woman is more privileged or more racist than their male counterpart. But despite the misogyny they experience, white women “demean” POC with micro aggressions and and outright racism. Those are Karens.

A Karen could be an outstanding teacher who is paid less than her male counterpart despite working twice as hard, but she still insists on moving to an all-white community because the “schools are better.”

A Karen has been treated terribly by men when she worked in the service industry, so why does she “demand to speak to a manager” when she is given the wrong order at a restaurant by her POC server? Could it be her white privilege?

A Karen voted for Trump despite his abhorrent language about women and sexual assault. Why? Because, she thinks we need to stop undocumented people from taking jobs she would probably never work herself.

To be fair, Karen also voted for Trump because her husband told her to and he pays most of the bills

The whole idea of Karen is a misogynistic trope. There is no equivalent for men and that should tell you everything. We’re in a terrible mess in this planet and we’re not going to get ourselves out of it by finding more amusing ways to divide or demean.

It’s not that I don’t understand the stereotype that’s being pictured there, because I do. But I also think that any group could be stereotyped according to their shadow if we chose to. It shouldn’t be considered politically incorrect to do it for one group but not for another.

Actually, I’ve seen a few Twitter discussions trying to come up with a male equivalent, but there hasn’t been a consensus. Some of the most suggested: Bret Brad Chad Greg (unfortunately)
