$2k/mo while this lasts isn’t only what people need right now; it’s what people will vote for! Kinda-sorta-better-than him is not enough to defeat him. When things are dramatically horrible, have the guts to counter with something dramatically wonderful.

It would actually be extremely smart, politically, if the GOP did an about-face and cut out some of the bureaucracy in favor of monthly reoccurring payments. I think it’s unlikely, but it would be a smart decision, and very popular with the people (voters).

And unfortunately that’s the GOP’s priority. Hopefully this bill can get reworked, because people are really struggling right now, and $1,200 just isn’t cutting it.
