Because the unemployment rate only captures those who have been actively looking for jobs, with businesses shuttered and millions staying at home, a lot of people can’t actively look for work, meaning the real number of unemployed Americans is significantly higher than reported.

In order for it to qualify as a depression, it needs to go on for 2-3 years, but unfortunately, the Trump administration and its allies are doing all they can to make a full-scale depression more likely as opening the economy too soon will backfire, badly.
