1/ So much pain and suffering could have been avoided if 1) our healthcare system was designed to improve health more than increase profit, 2) our govt agencies were quick and responsive to the needs of people over the demands of an unjust economy...
2/ 3) the president had moved quickly to provide all equipment & medical support, which he had the authority to do, and 4) our govt had provided immediate sustained bailout in the form of #directcashrelief.
3/ Instead, the virus hit us much harder than it had to & a wave of economic despair has slammed us hard. Now people want to go back to work to pay their rent & feed their kids, which is likely to cause the next wave of mass infection. Terrible? Yes, but important to understand .
4/ I don’t think we can get out of this mess until enough of us face it in all its horror; not just the results of bad government but the reality of bad government - its utter venality. And it is ours to change. It will not be easy but our democracy, and our lives, depend on it.
Our government was slow off the starting block... and as a result we are currently losing the race against coronavirus. In contrast... New Zealand acted fast, acted early, practiced tracing, tracking and testing. The outcome: 20 deaths total No new cases.
$3 trillion in bailouts could have given every American $9000. Throw in the $6T Fed intervention and it’s closer to $30k. Instead we got a bureaucratic nightmare making winners and losers. Disaster.

In Europe and in Asia ... where they have great testing capabilities ... the Virus is coming back ... We here in the US ... as states open up this summer ... should expect a Americans to be ... "slaughtered"... by this Virus!
