The answer is not to reopen the economy; it's to freeze the economy. The government should provide everyone with the economic wherewithal to survive this period without leaving home. It's criminal to make people have to choose between their livelihood and their health.

Third world countries are dependent on the economic output you want to “freeze” for food. That is a FACT. Your proposal guarantees the starvation of 10s of millions. It’s projected over 100m will starve. Perhaps inquire with the UN.

This is what you meant about lack of imagination OOF. We can literally use food waste as compost and plant food in every empty commerical lot that can't sell. Teach the world to feed itself

I think your imagination is having trouble conceiving the large scale death that would result by freezing everything. Covid is a profound excuse to bring about very destructive changes way too quickly, and furthermore, it’s questionable not to give the economy as is zero credit.
