The answer is not to reopen the economy; it's to freeze the economy. The government should provide everyone with the economic wherewithal to survive this period without leaving home. It's criminal to make people have to choose between their livelihood and their health.

Unless you can figure out a way for the food to harvest itself, pack itself, butcher itself and deliver itself, someone is going to work. Pretty much everything we rely on to live is because someone went to work.

Essential workers? Is that a polite way of saying disposable?

I assumed you didn't but it does drive home the point that some will have to sacrifice while others sit home. Jeff Bezos, btw, loves this idea.

Why would essential workers continue to work if everyone else is getting free money? If the answer is we will just pay them more, how will we afford food? If the ans is hand out more free $, what happens to the premium for actual workers...

oh i see!!! The farmers and factory workers, doctors and nurses can work themselves to death whilst everyone else gets paid to sit at home! And what do you think that is going to do to the psyche of people when its over and they have to go back to work?
