1/ Imagine a single mother living in a small apartment with two kids. One of them has a behavioral or physical disorder. She’s ineligible for unemployment and she doesn’t know where they’ll get food in a week or two. And remember there are millions in her situation and even worse

3/ Love isn't the only face of God. So is Justice. To say we should love a hungry person is not enough; we also need to feed them. Our problem is not just the myriad societal dysfunctions that plague us; our biggest problem is the economic injustice that created so many of them.

4/ Such are the things we should think about now. We need to imagine, articulate and plan for the society we'll have to build on the other side of this. As soon as the crisis is over we need to hit the ground running. We need to be imaginal cells out of which will emerge the new.

This is absolutely heartbreaking to read. But I am a single mother, and while my situation is not here (anymore) it was once, and I have not forgotten. The lack of empathy informing "policy" is pathological, and the reliance on the rich and powerful to guide us, completely wrong.

I agree, it’s a shame at how slow the progress has been on producing the necessary equipment to dispatch enough tests for us to safely reopen our country. In the meantime, let’s provide her with cash relief so she can make sure she and her kids eat.

What do we do? It’s so heartbreaking to watch the leadership who CAN help, won’t.

Bring in leadership that wants to and will! AND continue in the meantime (and beyond) to build supportive networks of neighbors helping neighbors within our own communities.
