Indeed, @TheEconomist claiming that pandemics may favor autocrats does not get that they are only a symptom of a bigger problem. Focusing only on autocrats or diseases is equivalent to considering society and economics that generated them a neutral entity, exactly like markets.

With sincere respect in medicine we cure when possible, reduce suffering when not.
This may be true in some paradigms, but not all. Those who act as if all healing comes from within do not work to "cure" but to empower. There's no need for a secondary aim because the primary aim is adequate.
That’s such an old lie, it’s not funny anymore. Every good physician is treating the entire patient, not just treating symptoms“. You keep refusing one of the profoundly causal ways to eliminate illness- vaccines. We treat civilization illness with diet, excercise AND medicine.
Plenty of treatments are aiming to correct the cause of an illness, if it’s possible. If not, there’s NOTHING wrong with alleviating symptoms. Everyone who has ever taken a Tylenol for a headache or a toothache is a hypocrite if they start complaining about „treating symptoms“.
