The United States has a reputation, now currently in shatters, of at least trying to stand up for human rights and international law. According to international law, the fact that you are occupying a territory does not give you the legal right to annex it.

Having spent time in Middle East nations, I can attest I would rather live as a Muslim in Israel than as a Muslim commoner in an Arab nation—its a matter of standard of living and liberty. Have you been to the region, personally?
