I hate to disagree with @marwilliamson, but she's presuming Capitalism EVER had an ethical center. As an amateur historian I cannot say it ever had.
Take child labor, millions marched & suffered to force government to pass laws against it. And then elites pretended it was a gift.
Politics that lacks a moral dimension can never solve society’s problem because it doesn’t address its origin. When capitalism disconnected from its ethical center, permitted to operate along strictly amoral lines, humanity became vulnerable in ways we had never been before.

It comes down to this: Do individuals in our government speak and act to benefit the well-being of everyone? Or do they speak and act to benefit only themselves and their rich supporters?

We need politicians rated on a 1- 10 Compassion Scale based on their legislative records. Not just fact checking their recent public statements. The NRA rates politicians based on their records blocking gun regulation. We need the same type of rating for a Compassion Scale.
