Your community did as much for me as I did for them. It was a love affair that still brings tears to my eyes.
Many people have asked me what it was like during the AIDS crisis. It was much like this. And also like during that crisis, this gives all of us an opportunity to determine who we really are. We can face this thing with fear, or we can face this thing with love. It’s our choice.

no it’s not nobody cared for years there was no public outcry people were silent as long as it only affected the others

As someone who grew up in W. Hollywood and later volunteered for AIDS Project LA, I can attest that it was an absolutely devastating experience. I do not recall a lot of love (at least not nationally) at the time. Heartbreaking.

So sorry for what you endured. And glad that in the midst of so much abject hatred, there were small pockets of love, so that even as so many lay dying, there was compassion in a few, and transformation for some who survived. Much love for you in 2020.
