40% of Americans couldn’t cover a $1,000 unexpected expenditure. That’s not just an economic disadvantage; it’s a source of chronic tension & anxiety. If our political establishment wants to help with the mental health crisis it might start by not leaving so many in such despair.

You see, I love all of those ideas, but I fear they’re not immediately achievable. Do you think it they should all be completed immediately or phased in gradually over, say, two decades? I know we need change, but I fear alienating people who need to vote for it.
We could begin by repealing the 2017 tax cut, which gives $.83 of every dollar to the very richest Americans. Yes it could be repealed immediately, although the middle class tax cuts should be put back in. That tax cut went into effect in one day and it can be repealed in one day

I completely agree. The Trump tax cuts benefited only a select few and came at the expense of ordinary Americans. That must go on day one, and should be coupled with taxes on wealth, as most wealthy people keep their wealth in assets. Progress is possible but not inevitable
