A massive transfer of wealth has occurred over the last 40 years (through tax cuts for the richest and corporate subsidies, mainly), creating the largest income inequality in almost 100 yrs. 1% controls more money than the bottom 90%. So the answer to your question is yes!

Welcome to our lives and I bet if we really study that 40% statistic we could find some research showing larger percentages with different samples and analysis. Anyhoo most of us are one paycheck from the streets.

Having $400 saved would be amazing! But working 2 jobs, working through school and supporting the family like most of us, well over 40% is the truth of this “amazing” economy. Of course unemployment is low we all work 2 or more damn jobs!

You’re correct, $1,000 extra for the poorest, maybe comes to them once a year, maybe a income tax return. That’s when the poor get tires, shoes, jackets, whatever they can squeeze out of the tax return money, if they receive any. Such stress just for day to day survival. So sad.
