I suggest you go see a movie called “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Large groups of desperate people are like a petri dish out of which the emergence of societal pathology is almost inevitable.

Sure would be nice, but people are not widgets that can be reprogrammed to change their nature. Wars start for all kinds of reasons beyond “desperation”—ambition, actual or perceived offense, desire for self-determination/freedom from oppression.
