MLK said we need “qualitative shifts in our soul” as well as “quantitative shifts in our circumstances.” Gandhi said “self- purification” must precede political action. Both of them spoke of the internal changes that are necessary to produce fundamental external change.
Internal Shifts: 1: Try not to hate the haters; otherwise you’re just another hater. 2: Honor someone’s opinion even if it’s not your own. 3: Disagree passionately but without personally demonizing the other. Change 4. Atone in your heart for the transgressions of your country.
But material conditions create consciousness. Gandhi got it the wrong way around.
He recognized both, and so should we.

You belong on the Iowa primary
I have been spending a lot of time contemplating this recently & will continue to do so. We need to have a strong sense of our values & integrity so that we won't compromise them in the face of the fearful & devisive tactics used against us.
As part of this, we must work to override our brain's primitive survival instinct to quickly categorize others as friend/foe, safe/dangerous & the reflex to attack when there is an assumed "threat" from another. It is the heart not the head that knows the connectedness of us all.
Completely agree, but struggle with this every day in many ways. I don't know how to "override survival instincts" in the face of mean, dangerous feeling "attacks" on what is sacred to me. It's not innate. I'm a warrior...but unfortunately not a very spiritual warrior of late!
Sometimes I suspect you understand just how revolutionary #UBI is even more than Yang himself. Thank you for being a leader!
