Our economic system was designed before women had a real say in the public sphere, and when care of children was seen as “women’s work.” But we do have a voice now and we should use it loudly on behalf of America’s children (all America’s children, and the children of the world).

And low-cost daycare should be part of that mix. Whether single or married, a mother should not have to pay a large chunk of her salary for daycare. That’s an encumbrance to her ability to thrive.

I support UBI as well, but we shouldn’t kid ourselves that it’s going to solve all the problems of the world. Corrupt systems still need to be corrected.

When we can see everyone’s children as our own, even if we don’t have any, when we can make their homes safe and their schools safe places —then they can become the leaders and inventors and artists and compassionate souls they are meant to be. #Future

We all need to demand better. We need to restore balance back to working families. Extreme capitalism and the opportunists that exploit our system have corrupted our political process. The takers of the world must be put in check, and it will require real leadership to do so.

I’ve always felt that these large corporations with a significant number of employees should always have affordable on site day care. The biggest problem I faced was raising my daughter alone, racing to pick her up from aftercare by 6:00 or pay $10/minute. Alt. Latchkey kid 😳

#LatchKeyKids are often left to make their way home from school and unlock the door to be home alone. @marwilliamson #DeptOfYouth NOT a good SCENARIO at all. What choice does a working single Mom have? #HomeAlone #Children #AfterSchool #NoSupervisionpic.twitter.com/AoWQvAjFhT
