A country that can afford a $738 billion defense budget but will not ensure its school children a more healthy diet is a country whose moral values are spiraling down and whose future health care costs will be spiraling up.

Take a stand for higher nutritional standards for America’s school lunches. Otherwise the standards are being lowered, and the health and productivity of our children will suffer. Email feedback@usda.gov.

Our Sect’y of Agriculture is Sonny Perdue; the USDA calls the shots re school lunches. If you think it seriously wrong that the Secretary of Agriculture would be arguing for FEWER fruits and vegetables, you’re absolutely right. The Sec of Ag is basically an agribusiness lobbyist.

IMO, this is where US media totally fails. They don't give a sh** about poor ppl even though poor ppl are the majority of Americans. Sell the division, earn a paycheck, move on to commercial.

If we’re honest with ourselves, I think it’s a place where we the citizens have totally failed. I’ve seen coverage of this USDA decision all over the media in the last day. On many things the issue is who we’ve elected over the last 40 years. Our complacency is partly to blame.

Kids waste a huge amount of veggies in public schools. They just get thrown away. Why should we waste tax payer funding on future garbage? Give them healthy alternatives they want, and let their parent(s) force them to eat right or not.

I watched Ozzy and Harriet as a child too, but I’ve long since given up the illusion that every child in America has parents who are guiding them regarding healthy food or can even afford healthy food.

Come on now! We are pizza, fries, and spaghetti and cheesesteaks for lunch as kids and we turned out fine. Can’t force kids to eat healthy. They just need more physical activity.

You think we turned out fine? Check out how much higher our rate of chronic illness is compared to people in other countries of comparable wealth.

I was just reading another article about this that said the potato lobby is pushing for these proposed changes. It also seems like Trump just wants to undo everything that the Obama administration did. Shameful.
