Focus on what we want & demand it of our leaders: For every child in America to be fed & fed well; every school in America to be a palace of learning & culture; every person in America to be educated & educated well; every person in America to have a reasonable chance to thrive.
American citizens have been trained to expect too little from our government. The resources of this country - the best in health care, education & economic opportunity - should belong to its citizens. That's what we pay taxes for and that's what we should expect.
I like you, @marwilliamson, but if these things belong to the citizens, aren't they best kept in the hands & control of the citizens, not the government?
The govt appropriates where our tax money goes. What doesn’t go to citizens now goes - very disproportionately - to huge multinational corporations. That’s not putting money back in the hands of the people!
Infighting has reduced our government to right vs left while nothing gets done. Humans have basic needs. In order to compete in the world we should be provided w all of these things. Instead, all of the energy is spent posturing and distracting from these issues.

We need to stop saying democrats or republicans and start using the word government. When we have a problem we tell government to fix it

We also don’t want our government to control everything. It seems there is this content pull between people who want to have freedom to choose themselves yet ask the government to pay and give us free benefits. If they pay for it they control it. No freedoms.
