over a period of 30 years there were 6,947 claims that were paid. For 1 decade of that, 2006-2017, to contextualize, there were 3,454,269,356 vaccines administered. Wow, I had no idea HHS had a special program to compensate for vaccination injury claims. Not sure if I should be impressed or annoyed!

It’s a lower level of proof required for a compensation payout, funded by a tax on the product. The purpose is to ensure vaccine manufacturers aren’t sued out of existence or mired in 000s of spurious claims from antivaxxers who say a small rash after a shot is a ‘vaccine injury’

I kinda agree with the premise, and also as a tool to study rare allergic reactions on vaccinations. And it really shows the effectiveness of vaccines. But then it gives sound bites to anti-vaxxers - see government already paid 4B in compensation.

Yes. That misleading use of the statistic is one more example of why @marwilliamson is a bad candidate.

Very much so. 4B is a lot, until you realize it represents 1 in 1M vaccinations. Over 30 years. Those are not mortality, those are reactions that _might_ be attributable. Do you know how many people _die_ per 1M cases of flu? 2000. Also FYIhttps://twitter.com/minouye271/status/1175890007875346432 …

That really is the key word: triggered. That shows she is doing her job by actually hitting people where it counts. And they don't like the feeling; but down deep they know she is right.

Yes. First of all, $4 billion over a decade pales in comparison to the costs of the flu, hepititas, MMR, etc. The Flu alone costs over $10 billion each year. Second of all, by those numbers you cite, out of every million vaccinations, one person seeks compensation
