Political elites don’t want us to look too deeply into the root cause of most of our problems because they ARE the root cause of most of our problems. Outside-the-box is a good thing when the box is filled with hot air.

As someone who looked "deeply into root causes" on a personal level these last ten years, this strikes me as an absolutely on point analogy. Deep "examination" can be like walking through fire. The "elites" would need to bypass fear, be prepared for what they see, and OWN it.
