Which current policies, excluding any having to do with climate change, thwart potential and in what way do they thwart?

I have been thinking about how we construct and administer social aid. It feels like by giving a promise of help but then limiting that help and creating bureaucratic obstacles we actually encourage what looks like dependency.

I mean, people would be far more willing to give you a chance if you sat with someone from the @BernieSanders campaign or at least @paulkrugman and demostrated you have *technical* command of issues like Medicare for All
