If the system doesn’t support ethics by nature, people can’t be expected, on the whole, to support ethics either. It’s an adaptation problem. Capitalism, being scarcity driven and competitive, will always reward immoral behavior.

I find it interesting that people place adjectives on systems as if they had a life of their own. Capitalism, or socialism for that matter, will never be what they're meant to be, if people aren't properly educated and taught moral values, merit and accountability...

It’s just a false choice the way the question is oft framed in political terms. W. Europe, CA, AU are all capitalist. The nations have varying socialist policies that create a social safety net. They’re social democracies. Socialism doesn’t turn them into socialist nations.

The current version of capitalism in the US does a dreadful job at internalizing externalities such as environmental devastation. That is a big problem that any economics-minded person should be able to recognize.
