Totally, I would add paternal leave to the list. The first months of life are crucial for developing attachment and can have life long consequences. Being raised by a stressed out parent creates a stressed out child. Our students are more dysregulated than ever.
Our greatest source of wealth-creation is the creativity and productivity of the American people. Therefore anything that allows people greater access to the realization of their own potential - healthcare, education, culture - should be seen as a boost not a suck on our economy.

True. But before one should dismiss the narrative for which helping people in need is an obstacle for the creativity and productivity of the rich. For instance, reading the first book by Adam Smith, and not only the second.

Everyone in need, if and when helped, is potentially the creative and productive rich person. Life is a continuum, not a stack of categories into which we are stuck forever.
