And even when we find housing, the barriers to making it home are cost prohibitive. Shelters don't really help you get on your feet, and even when you can get items you can't move furniture without a truck, and the charities want it gone the same day.

Its probably more a mental health and substance abuse issue. Perhaps bring back a kinder version of the old State hospitals for long term care and possible rehab.

Yes, this is part of the problem. People experiencing homelessness are not all mentally ill. But after a month on the street a person’s mental health drastically declines.
