They can be... Join the military!

Let's just so a match. Half a billion to the military and half to the civilians to include veterans. I participated in a veteran art study and it's been very beneficial. Now I enjoy art much more in my community.

I can listen to the discussion on military bands. But, the NEA? Artists are small business people and should be self supporting. And, the idea that taxpayers should help the wealthy attend events (the Arts) at the Kennedy Center is ridiculous.

The idea that art should be a small business that only the rich care about is bogus, it's different in parts of Europe where the government supports the arts and it enriches all of society

.The military bands are excellent - many genres - blues/jazz/country/classical - and they play free concerts everywhere - let's not dismiss them. They are artists too.

In my reading of the original post,
@marwilliamson was NOT suggesting defunding the military bands, but rather that other arts be robustly funded as well. The military bands PROVE that the gov't can have A role in fostering arts (not the only role, but a substantive one).

This is insane! Pour that money back into the communities to create wonderful opportunities for the Music and Art programs! Could you imagine what that would do for the energy of the universe! Now that is insanely magnificent!

The energy of the universe? No I can not imagine that.

I support your efforts to encourage artists to join the military and then funnel NEA funds into the military to help pay for their work. There are certainly lots of missed opportunities for military themed art works that we tax payers could be funding.

So music isn't art when associated with the military? Some art is more worth it than others?
