The absolute gall of signaling to those in the Bahamas that they've lost their loved ones and their homes because they didn't pray enough is cruel beyond words and the opposite of a compassionate, rational worldview. Stop weaponizing prayer, @marwilliamson. Stop.

My understanding was that she was just validating the people who were praying for the hurricane to pass. Validating their need for prayer - not actually suggesting that the hurricane would be affected by "mind control".

Marianne you're often wise, but not this time. Prayer doesn't change things for people; changes people for things. Folks sincerely pray for cures, peace, victory, rain, shelter, family, riches... graveyards r full of people to whom "god gave more than they could handle".

It's fine to pray for the courage, strength, fortitude, wisdom, serenity, acceptance, grace, gratitude to surmount a challenge. That helps us act effectively. On instinct, we pray for an *outcome*. But g/d's not gonna fix things just because we prayed or believed hard enough.

Her prayers are for support and comfort. People can twist things anyway they choose to but that doesn't change her intention to send love. This lady has been an activist for people for decades. Let's honor that and get off the haters band wagon.

When people from Bahamas emerge from the devastation, I certainly will understand if they read your deleted tweet as an entreaty to the ‘universe’ that mainland USA but not them be spared.
