Many religions are cult like. The point here is the subject matter. It’s extremely contentious and displayed in this way seems cult like, ritualistic and promoting self loathing of a single demographic.

Cults are abusive expressions of some religion. Allowing people to channel apologies to people who have been abused for generations is not abusive. Even if the apology causes some discomfort, I bet it's cathartic not abusive. I mean, try apologizing outside sacred space
