Historically, our nation has been in the business of creating refugees, for oil, resources and our "national interest" which can be read as, we see you as a threat, even if you aren't. This we shamefully do, to this day.

Thank you Marianne. Today, I've been listening to a lot of your speeches and interviews. I really appreciate the spiritual message in our politics. It is refreshing and grounding in human connection/ kindness. It makes me feel that our future might be allrite!

Most Americans wouldn't have the ability to show empathy, much less understanding, for those fleeing violence and persecution. They don't have the empathy for fellow Americans suffering injustice, much less homelessness. Why would we expect empathy from them for foreigners?
