Also, maybe we should stop buying oil from the world's most sexually oppressive patriarchy, where women are still executed for 'witchcraft'.https://twitter.com/RandPaul/status/1050360736919236608 …

No. I'm saying that from a moral standpoint, enabling the sale isn't all that different than making a purchase.
-
Pfft, morals. Got to get that oil, son!

You think that if they can’t sell oil, they’ll turn to liberal democracy?
-
I think the Saudis need oil revenue and that without it, their support will collapse quickly. Will iberal democracy fill the void? Unlikely. Will the next regime behead housekeepers? Also unlikely, but who knows? Not advocating for regime change, just clean hands.

You don't understand Arabian society. Most liberals in the country support the regime because they know the population is even more conservative. Any regime that rules the Holy Cities is hook to be conservative, and it's imperative that we have decent relations with them.

The tribal people wanted to kill the Sauds for introducing the radio in the 1920s until they showed them that you could listen to Islamic prayers on it. They’re nuts.

I have little patience with anyone who expects a people living in tents within memory to share post-1960s American liberal university values.
-
Who expects that? Not me. I agree, they don't share our values. I don't have a need to ally with them. Best of luck, I say.
