Shapiro is Modern Orthodox. and Prager was at least raised raised Modern Orthodox. So, their view on the Moshiach would not be much different from Ultra-Orthodoxy. Reform treats it as more metaphorical, Conservative doesn't take a strong position either way.

But do they really believe it?

I don‘t want to assume people’s deepest belief, but Shapiro is pretty typically MO and has even talked about the third temple in the past. He at least prays for the descendant of David to show up. “Belief” is less important to Jews. Prager “reads” more like an evangelical.

I wonder what he would do if he came, given that the Jews are already restored in their homeland. Perhaps finally present a credible electoral challenge to Netanyahu?
-
Nah. He doesn’t really have a place on the right. If you are going to be the cool headed air of superiority guy, you need the military service to back it up. Or go full fire breathing populist, and he doesn’t have that in him either.

I do believe that they think he’ll come but I don’t really think it’s that important. What’s important is conserving the race and culture, conserving this particular kind of human being.

In the Jewish Scriptures the Messiah rules the world so the effect is global even though He rules Israel directly.
