Nazis were fascist, nationalistic socialists, they wanted ethnic Germans only, and a collectivist society devoted to the glory of the German people. So yeah, they were socialists, in a sense, but if you’re thinking Bernie Sanders, you’re in the wrong ballpark.https://twitter.com/DIorioNathaniel/status/1030598971209777152 …

Unpopular opinion: Other than the genocidal bits, the Nazi pre-War economy was a juggernaut. The Nazi economic policy was definitely socially focused, and it worked.

They took the combined might of the Allies to stop, so yeah, they became a huge powerhouse very quickly. I think the problem was the same thing that animated that, also animated the Holocaust and WW2.

Maybe. You have to remember though, the Holocaust was caused, in part, by both an unwillingness to relocate the Jews on the part of the West, and the murder of the Palestinian Jew who was working with the Nazis to relocate them. The later is talked about by

To be fair, the West didn’t realise the extent of what was going to happen if they didn’t help forcibly relocate people who didn’t want to be relocated. Maybe if they did, they would have acquiesced, I don’t know. But it still would have been a huge trauma for Europe’s Jews.

No, it's pointing out that the west not taking German Jews in wouldn't have made much of a difference to the body count. It's a point I didn't make well in my podcast.

You mean if the West has agreed to help forcibly relocate people, despite it being morally questionable anyway, half of German still would have died anyway? How come?

I'm saying that the 100k or so German Jews who were killed, while significant and tragic, would not have averted or attenuated an event with a body count in the millions.

Hitler was not primarily concerned with German Jews, although he didn't like them either. It was the unassimilated eastern Jews, many of whom came into Germany after WW1, that excited his hatred. IOW, evacuating German Jews would not have helped Poland's.
