In response to some questions: It's not running on a blockchain. Blockchain is not the right tool for social media. You don't need or want strong consistency there - slow and expensive sync with everyone in the world.

Eventually consistent sync with WoT is good and works even without Internet, locally.

Next steps: 1) make it fast and reliable 2) import interesting content from existing social media and other sources 3) improve UX.

Wow. Simply wow. Interested in the security of it. However. I'm in love. Amazing. How can we help you.
-
Thanks! You can post your profile url here to network with others and see how it goes. Testing and opening issues at http://github.com/irislib/iris-angular … helps, or pull requests if you're a developer.
-
so... who is supporting you in this? seems pretty revolutionary if you could capture the market on a cultural narrative.
-
I'm working with https://era.eco which develops https://github.com/amark/gun , the decentralized database / sync protocol that Iris runs on. I agree that decentralized social media would be revolutionary. Just have to make it work well!

-
Hello! What do you think about the decentralized social Network BitTorrent is building? Also, the way Tron is expecting to decentralize the Web through BitTorrent ?

Friends replicate each other's messages. You can self-verify or ask friends to verify new keypairs to your account.

I will take a look. At first glance it reminds me of keybase with a little bit of zeronet and Twister P2P thrown into the mix. Glad to finally be able to try it. But this is only for social networking or you plan to extend it to private sites and apps?

Crypto wallets could integrate iris-lib to connect human-readable identities to payment addresses. Encrypted messaging apps like Signal could use Iris to look up users instead of telecom-bound phone numbers. All kinds of services could use iris-lib for authentication.
-
I see. Like OpenID, but a lot more versatile and actually good.

Does this use ipfs-js if I'm browsing on my mobile phone? How are images and the like persisted, or aren't they?
-
Yes, it uses js-ipfs. Persistence is currently not guaranteed, but friends could automatically pin each other’s files. Or we could wait for filecoin.
