Since "Chinese Spy Balloon" is trending: In 1945, the crew of USS New York spotted a sphere that they thought might be a Japanese balloon weapon. The captain ordered it shot down but none of the guns could score a hit. Finally, a navigator realized they were attacking Venus.

Anticipating this, I’ve been shifting my news reading back to RSS feeds. It‘a been surprisingly hard: many publishers don’t support RSS anymore, having become completely dependent on social media to distribute stories. Will be interesting Twitter feeds disappear next Wek.

The will of the people prevails at the FT now too, which is that the word 'data' should be treated as singular, not plural "Data is" - 74% "Data are" - 14% twitter.com/yougov/status/
