As you can see, our cartoonists were deeply sympathetic to our predicament last night. Thanks ! Copies on their way around the country as we speak: some may arrive a little late.

you may not be able to do what someone else can do, but that’s not what’s important. what’s important is what you can do that they can’t. too many people obsess over the former when they should be focused on the latter.

I distinguish quite strongly between "readability" and what I call "scannability". I think that our trade's pedagogues, even our very good ones, conflate the two, and in so doing inaccurately describe programming and ineffectively prescribe remedies.

3/ Real talk: There are absolutely some Sanders supporters that are obnoxious. But, the conclusion I came to was that much of the “Bernie Bro” phenomenon was Russia exacerbating the situation to divide us. I don’t like admitting I was wrong in 2016, but I was.

13 years ago, when I worked at Google, I posted the first ever “Testing on the Toilet” in a Google bathroom. A few people complained. But it picked up and a small group of us persisted. I never expected it to lead to a published paper:

“Decompose Conditional”   I love this refactoring when working with legacy code since it provides really quick and safe wins for readability on complex conditionals, which legacy code seems to have a ton of!

I've been pair programming for about a year in a professional context. There are some amazing positives and some kinks that can be worked out. This article covers most of them

  17. Social media platforms need to provide tools to allow their users to counter online abuse. This has been clear for years, but the response has been glacial. It shouldn't need an army of volunteers.

That "committing to the shared mainline" is what in my experience many people forget. If you set up your to test your 100s of , then you're doing testing. Which is also good, but lacks the continuous ><

Certification Test 💻Every developer commits at least daily to a shared mainline 🛠️Every commit triggers an automated build and test 💣If build and test fails, it's repaired within ten minutes
