Alright. Inspired by this tweet, I decided to read all relevant preprints (about 30 in all). Here's what I've found, a thread. 1/15

2/2 This week is critical week to prevent an exponential growth in Western countries. Seeing the utterly apathetic reaction in Germany and other EU countries one can only be very pessimistic. This is not just a China problem...

Evidence emerging that the new 🦠 seems to mutate rather fast. Authors say “Close monitoring of the virus’s mutation, evolution, and adaptation is needed”. In a family of 6 infected people, 2 ‘nonsynonymous’ mutations occurred during human-to-human transmission.🤔

Updated our manuscript on viral manipulation of interneurons from mice to humans. Now with scATACseq-based enhancer selection and 4 new PV-specific enhancers with exquisite specificity for distinct regions of the brain :

Je regrette vivement que France Inter, pour alimenter la polémique, ait réduit ma longue interview à sa première minute. Voilà ce que j’ai AUSSI dit : (1/n)

Let me say the cliche: I am very happy that our paper is out. It addresses our ability to interact with others: Thanks to colleagues for the tremendous support, especially Peter Thier 🙏

New paper w , "Learning as the Unsupervised Alignment of Conceptual Systems". Supervised learning tasks can be solved by purely unsupervised means by exploiting correspondences across systems (e.g., text, images, etc.). 1/5

Cool work. Simple model with parameter-free predictions. One only rarely sees something like this.

4/ Because we kept tracking the robot we thus found a fake mirrpr place field for the robot when the rat was walking just behind the robot. It's quite amazing the rat decided to jump over the big wall and go after this scary robot!

3/ One day I thought we found mirror place cells. Watching back the video, turned out the rat had jumped on top of a ~50cm plexiglass door (he was watching the robot from behind there) and then jumped on the maze where the robot was, and went after him.. .

2/ The place fields for the animal itself can be weakly modulated by the other agent though, but a lot is explained away by changes in the animal's own behavior... Maybe the reason we didn't find social place fields is that the rat didn't have to imitate the other agent...
