A teacher who did not want to participate, would not be part of this program. It's voluntary, as a last line of defense. If a child's life is saved by a teacher who was trained and licensed to carry a gun, would you object?https://twitter.com/shannonrwatts/status/1080970210100690944 …

Be sure to mention that there is zero evidence that this would be effective; that highly trained police hit moving targets 30% of the time; that teachers don’t want to be armed; and that arming a fraction of 3.6M US teachers would enrich gun manufacturers and pay Dana’s salary. https://twitter.com/marthamaccallum/status/1080950954101370880 …

She’s not fighting for school safety. She’s using the issue of school shootings to implement gun control. So a teacher saving students with a gun counters her entire agenda. This is why honest answers can never come from her in conversations like this.

It’s your mythical belief that an armed teacher can save lives when student security can’t and many times police can’t. Now try herding a classroom of kindies to safety, while getting them to stay quiet(and for forbid there’s even one kid in that class w/sensory issues)......

while the teacher gets her gun & what...leaves to hunt down the shooter or wait til he comes to her door only? What exactly your plan after we train them? Leave & hunt? Hope the shooter magically picks the right room w/the one trained teacher? Shilling for the NRA it seems.

This notion of arming teachers is ignorant. The whole notion a teacher will respond appropriately at that moment is a pipe dream. Cops freeze, soldiers freeze all the time and they’re highly trained the science and facts prove just how big a fallacy this is

It’s SO ignorant & insulting to teachers who spend years going to school to become educators. They choose the profession because of love for children, teaching, subject matter. With all the obstacles teachers already face asking them to shoot the shooter is just ABSURD.

Martha, you let Dana spew rhetoric without answering a single real question then you come here & ask @shannonrwatts questions. Heres an idea; have Shannon on your show & ask her some questions. My hunch is you have no interest in hearing real thoughtful answers backed by data.

Yes. I’m a teacher and I’ve worked with some extremely unhinged people who’ve had breakdowns at work, one of whom was ex military and would probably be the first person conscripted to carry at school. This is a terrible idea.

What if a child's life is accidentally ended by a teacher who was trained and licensed to carry a gun, or by someone else who got access to that gun? Because the scenario I describe is FAR more likely with a nation full of selectively armed teachers.

Picture Virginia Tech when the shooter with ordinary hand guns locked the door and began systematically executing students. Don't you think a "last line of defense" might have saved some lives?

NO. I do need to want ANY weapons in my classroom and neither do my colleagues. We aren't even allowed to have adult scissors or hot coffee in reach of our students and now you want a loaded firearm???

BAM!!!! Exactly right!! We had a 4th grader disassemble a little pencil sharpener and proceed to cut the backs of students necks all morning. They were so afraid of the student no one told until lunch. Point: where there’s a will there’s a way.

By one estimate, 4 million children are the victims of sexual abuse or harassment by their teachers every year. Imagine if those abusive teachers had access to guns.http://childrenstreatmentcenter.com/sexual-abuse-teachers/ …

As usual we are focused on the wrong dangers. I personally know half a dozen women who were inappropriately harassed (or worse) by teachers. I imagine most women know far more. Imagine if your creepiest high school teacher had a weapon. Horrifying.

I’m a retired police officer. In my professional opinion, arming teachers poses a plethora of problems. Guns in classrooms is a ridiculous idea that does not address the root problem.

As a teacher I do not want to participate and I would not teach at a school that allowed this or let my children attend a school that allowed this. This is ridiculous. Police rarely hit their target and they get months of training! This is asking for trouble.
