The EU has a constellation of satellites ("Copernicus") monitoring the world's weather, pollution and environment, 24/7. The resulting data (including RADAR!!) are available for download by everyone. John Murray used this open data to detect windfarms automatically. So cool.

Imagine being told in 2001 that America would still be at war in Afghanistan in 2018, and it would not be a political issue. And that CPUs wouldn't get significantly faster than the 3.5GHz one Intel demoed that year. What the hell.

Saudi Arabia is putting to death a female rights activist because presumably feminism is “hate speech” from their perspective. That’s how restrictions on speech work. People in power get to decide what is “hate” & what isn’t.

So what you’re saying is that the FBI was engaged in a legitimate counterintelligence investigation into Russian influence long _before_ you were a candidate—such that the claim that the whole episode was a conspiracy to target (and weaken) your campaign is bollocks? Got it...

In ~1982 I saw Hal Chamberlin give a digital music synthesis presentation. A 360K floppy couldn’t hold more than a few minutes of music, so he had to keep swapping them out during the demonstration.

This is textbook projection. The only cover here is the ad industry using "the press needs to survive" as cover for "we need to track you without your consent."

Started class w the "Wason selection task" problems. Just as the psychologists predicted, my students were more successful w the alcohol version than the number/letter one. "The puzzle is readily solved when the imagined context is policing a social rule"

The National Museum of Rio is currently being consumed by flames. Over 20 million historical items are being lost before our eyes. I am so sad that I'm crying while I watch this.
