To all the ppl that say "A vote for 3rd party is a vote for ____" No. That's how we got here. Also, you're bad at math.
Let's say you and ten friends want to go to the movies. 5 want to see Star Wars, 5 want to see the Tenet. You don't want to see either movie. You want to see The new mutants. No one else wants to see that, however. When you vote that, you've done nothing to solve the situation

The new mutants never had a chance of being the movie. And let's say you dislike Star Wars slightly less than you do the Tenet. Since what you really want isn't an option, it is in your best interest at that point to vote for the option that will upset you the least.

Or, your friends were subject to group think and did not realize anyone wanted the 3rd movie until you voiced your opinion for it

The problem with your analogy is once the movie is over the event is over. That's not how reality works with voting/government. The movie doesn't just end and that's it. The country continues on. If a 3rd party starts growing and gaining momentum then they start gaining influence
