“When I was your age, I had to walk 10 feet across shag carpet to change the TV channel.” 
That is not true for many of us. It was at least 12 feet - and the shag carpet was (usually) a hideous neon color.

And the TV was black and white (the grownups had the color one), and one false move and you'd bump the rabbit ears, sending the screen into chaos.

True, but if you used tape and glued aluminum foil to the rabbit ears they were more durable.
