If you were putin right now... would you wait until a new election and an actual good POTUS took over and start the whole struggle for world dominance begin again... or would you wait until your enemy was decimated by your puppet (and disease) and attack?

What makes U think attack wasn't already launched 1/20/17? 1st thing Putin did: gain access 2 US computer systems (if he already didn't have it all) Putin punctured our balloon of democracy. Cost of forcing out the air is greater than letting the slow "hiss" signal USA demise

Because putin doesn't want 'virtual' control... He wants direct control. Was it an attack already? 100% yes, but one designed to weaken an enemy and put a puppet in charge. The actual physical attack must come before trump is replaced or it was all for nothing.

Historically Russia has been feign to attack & even then not far outside its borders. They don't need a physical attack: conquest & rule are too expensive.

Agreed. And you may be right. And I'm not in praise of Putin, just trying to be realistic about him.
