A legitimate fear: the elections will not occur in November & the would-be dictator takes full control. That is the const’l crisis we face. GOP has to be taken back from the majority that jacked it a few years ago. 38/40

Mark, best wishes in bringing your progressive Republican views to the stage tonight. I count 12 of your 13 competitors as being Trumpy/Trumpy-lite, as they appear obsessed w/guns & stopping women from having control of their bodies. Your approach to Republicanism is welcome.

Thanks! I'll give it my best. btw - I did not address guns. Didn't have time to get that in. Only recently has 2nd Amend been interpret'd to prevent controls on firearms. We need background checks, ban assault weapons (unless deer become armed) & ban clips w/> 4 rounds.

The 2nd Amendment is not about hunting. Self defense is a natural right. The government has no authority to tell me how to defend myself. We have background checks now. It's a magazine, not a clip, and arbitrary limits on ammo per magazine are nothing but feel-good legislation.

2nd Amendment was about militias. Guns do not arise out of nature. There have been limits on weapons going back to ancient Greece - and even Tombstone AZ & Dodge City KS. Limits on clips - i'll use terms I choose - mean something to ppl being mowed down.

"Guns do not arise out of nature." Neither does Twitter. So put the phone down, write your response with quill and parchment, and mail it via horse messenger.

Ideas and communication exist as they did then. Mass slaughter w/weapons did not. 1st correspondents back from Russian-Japanese war sd there would be no more wars: they'd seen what machine guns could do & thought ppl would say "no more."

So in 1776 I could communicate with someone globally in a hot instant? Machine guns are not routinely available to private citizens, and have not been used in a mass killing in modern day.

1) The concept of being able to communicate to masses, but not instantly, was present. 2) Okey-dokey: assault weapons aren't machine guns. Then: rapid fire weapons meant to kill masses real fast.

There were already "rapid fire" weapons when the 2nd was written. Also, private citizens owned cannons, warships, and repeating arms.

Not on this scale and certainly not as contemplated when the 2nd was adopted. And I''m sorry to tell you this, but if you actually advocate warships and cannon should be owned by individuals, you're nuts.
