5) FREE MARKET IS A PANACEA: We have had free market economies in our history. They result in monopolies and oligopolies. There is a balance that must be maintained and going to either extreme does not cut it. 36/40

A legitimate fear: the elections will not occur in November & the would-be dictator takes full control. That is the const’l crisis we face. GOP has to be taken back from the majority that jacked it a few years ago. 38/40

Mark, best wishes in bringing your progressive Republican views to the stage tonight. I count 12 of your 13 competitors as being Trumpy/Trumpy-lite, as they appear obsessed w/guns & stopping women from having control of their bodies. Your approach to Republicanism is welcome.

Thanks! I'll give it my best. btw - I did not address guns. Didn't have time to get that in. Only recently has 2nd Amend been interpret'd to prevent controls on firearms. We need background checks, ban assault weapons (unless deer become armed) & ban clips w/> 4 rounds.

The Constitution is a check on the government, not the citizens. When they were out peddling the idea of the Constitution to the ratifying conventions, they specifically said that all powers would be enumerated, and the federal government wouldn't have unenumerated powers.

Problem is there was no consistent message to "peddle." Hamilton argued there should be no Bill of Rights because to enumerate rights = everything else isn't a right. 9th Amendment covers that.

Jefferson and Madison disagreed with Hamilton, who was a Federalist hack. Remember, Hamilton wanted what amounted to a monarchy. And several states wouldn't have ratified if they hadnt been reassured there would be no unenumerated powers. That's where the 10th ammendment comes in

1) For that matter Jefferson & Madison were "hacks" (need a position for or against anything? Quote Jefferson) 2) Hamilton favored monarchy but also opposed slavery & thought Bill of Rts limits rights 3) There's no record sufficiently clear to make claim as you make about 10th

Except the arguments made at the state ratifying conventions. But hey, we'll just ignore those for the sake of political expediency. Can't find a power? Make it up! Don't let something like the literal wording of the constitution hold you back.

1) Most State conventions left no records; 2) 4 States ratified after the Constitution reached 9; 3) NC had 2 conventions & rejected Const'n in 1st 4) Literal wording of Const'n on what? 2nd Amendment? Wasn't construed as it has been of late until late 20th Century.
